Kilpatrick pal Ferguson on trial again in Detroit

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT (AP) -- A Detroit contractor already sentenced to 21 years in prison is back in federal court for another fraud trial.

Bobby Ferguson's legal woes didn't end with his conviction and sentence in a scheme to reap millions with the help of then-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. Prosecutors are putting him through another trial after a jury failed to reach a verdict in a bid-rigging case in 2012.

Jury selection begins Tuesday. Ferguson is charged with conspiracy and other crimes.

U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade says the case involves allegations of fraud and illegal dumping at a federally funded housing project. Another defendant, Michael Woodhouse, is also on trial.
