DETROIT (WJBK) -

Two adults were arraigned Sunday in the death of a 16-month-old boy.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy charged Sandford McQueen, 22, and Karen Gelelzke, 23, with second degree murder, involuntary murder, and child abuse.

Police say they responded to a house in the 19300 block of Keating around 1:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon because an infant wasn't breathing. The child was left in the care of the defendants by his mother. It's alleged that the child was placed in a stroller covered with a blanket near a space heater.

The child was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The medical examiner says the child's died from burns. The death was ruled a homicide.

McQueen and Gelelzke were arraigned at the 34th District Court in Romulus.

Police say the baby's mother left him in the care of McQueen and Geletzke. It's unknown if the suspects have lawyers.
