While the bitter cold temperatures had most of us staying inside where it's warm, a Gloucester County dad is encouraging neighborhood kids to lace up the skates and get outside.
Joe Fattori suddenly became the coolest dad on the block.
"I usually like to give it like 5 or 6 nights below freezing and solid. Not going above freezing during the day," Fatorri said.
The Washington Township hockey fan transformed his backyard pond into a mini rink complete with real goals, painted lines and arena naming rights.
"We wound up calling this Vic's Vortex," Fattori said
Chris O'Connel got a chance to play on the rink of dreams. He says suddenly the 16 degrees didn't feel so bad.
Joe son Joey says his favorite part is playing hockey with his friends.
"I post pictures of it and they're all like I want to come. Some come over and lets just play," Joey said.
The rink will be around as long as it stays below freezing, but until that day comes a can of spray paint and a sheet of ice is making lifetime memories.
"They get all excited and they think they're all NHL stars here," Fattori said. "It makes the kids have a memorable moment and that's what it's about."
