Colleen's Dream: Woman's battle with ovarian cancer serves as an inspiration to others

Ovarian cancer is one of the scariest illnesses a woman can be diagnosed with. While doctors know a lot about it, little is known about how to detect it early on to save a woman's life. A valley family started a foundation with the help of the National Football League to find a test to detect ovarian cancer. It all started with their mother's mission: Colleen's Dream. FOX 10's Syleste Rodriguez reports.

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

Have you ever needed to be in two places at once?  Now there's technology that could help you do just that.

"So what you're seeing is the Anybots QB -- it's mobile video conferencing," said Nolan Katter, Business Development Executive for Anybots, Inc.  "It's not only remote controlled, it's remotely activated."

The robots have 2-way audio and video.  It connects to the internet over wi-fi.

The Santa Clara, California-based company Anybots developed QB and they were showing it off in Phoenix Monday.

"QB is governed to 3.5 miles per hour, a nice comfortable walking pace," said Katter.

The robot is battery operated.  A full charge lasts four to six hours and comes equipped with a green laser.

So you could essentially be in a meeting and pointing to whatever it is you're talking about.

When he's out of town, Katter uses QB to spend time with his 3-year-old son and the robot recently helped a sick child.

"Grady Hoffman was a 9-year-old going through bone marrow treatment.  He was able to use QB when he wanted to bot in and see mom, go in the backyard to be with his dog.. also we had one at school," said Katter.

The idea is to be a virtual presence in places where you can't be physically.

"Could be somebody.. a family member unable to attend a big event like a birthday, Bar Mitzvah, a wedding.. and they can do so again from anywhere in the world," said Katter.

It's rolling into the workplace, although some weren't ready for it   Down the road, "I really do see this type of technology being used in medical.. hospitals, especially if there's a shortage of specialists," said Katter.  "We see it as a starting point of where we need to go."

The company is already working on more advanced robots.

"The future of telepresence is a fun spot to be in right now.  A lot of technology is evolving to where robots are going to get smarter," said Katter.

QB can go from 3 feet to 6.5 feet tall.  These robots cost about $10,000, but you can rent them for $325 a day.
