Pharmacy killer may testify in NY drug case

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) - A man who murdered four people while robbing a Long Island pharmacy may be called as a witness in a drug case against a New York doctor.

A federal prosecutor revealed at a court hearing Friday that convicted killer David Laffer and his wife, Melinda Brady, may both be called to testify in the trial of Dr. Eric Jacobson.

The Great Neck doctor is charged with illegally distributing oxycodone and other painkillers to addicts.

Brady had been one of his patients.

Laffer was hunting for painkillers when massacred four people at a Medford pharmacy in 2011.

Brady drove the getaway car. She's serving a 25-year prison term.

Jacobson's attorney, Bruce Barket, says by calling the pair as witnesses, prosecutors were unfairly attempting to "inflame" the jury.
