A fast-moving four-alarm fire killed four people in Jersey City on Thursday.

More than two dozen residents were displaced and four bodies were pulled from the rubble from the fire, which broke out at about 1 a.m. at 28 Grant Ave.

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said a mix-up with the address of the fire delayed firefighters. The fire department arrived in about 7 to 8 minutes whereas the normal response time is 3 to 4 minutes, Fulop said.

"While yelling in a blazing fire the dispatcher heard Grand with a 'd' and not Grant with a  't'. The dispatcher only had the best interests of routing as quickly as possible to the end location with the information they were given in a high pressure environment," Fulop said.

A couple in their 80s and their two sons in their 50s are the victims, the AP reported. Their identities had not been released.

SkyFoxHD was overhead at about 6 a.m. as firefighters continued to battle flames and smoke. The fire spread to five other homes.

The roofs of nearly all of the row homes were destroyed. The flames were brought under control late Thursday morning.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.  One suffered minor electrical shocks and was taken to a hospital.  The other sustained a small injury to their face and was also taken to a hospital for treatment.

The Red Cross and United Way of Hudson County were working to relocate those displaced.

    The Clark Police Department has received 22 reports of burglaries of unlocked cars Thursday morning. Reports were received from residents of Hillcrest Drive, Thomas Drive, Grove Street, Orchard Terrace, Briarheath Lane and Stonehenge Terrace. There are no suspects at this time.
