PEACHTREE CORNERS, Ga. -

A Gwinnett County girl who was missing for most of the day was reunited with her family late Monday night.

The girl, 12-year-old Kelsie Lee, disappeared Monday morning after telling a sibling that she was taking out the trash.

Her disappearance led to a day-long search involving Gwinnett County police, using canines and a helicopter.

Monday night, a woman who lives in the area spotted the girl walking along a roadside. Jennifer Aliff said, "I was driving home from Walgreens and I saw a girl with a backpack and thought it seemed awful late for a girl to be walking."

Aliff says she approached the girl and asked her whether she was Kelsie. When the girl said yes, Aliff offered to take her home. Aliff says the girl answered, "Please, I'm just so scared."

Gwinnett County police say they are treating this as a runaway case, and there is no evidence of any foul play.

The Lee family declined to comment after they were reunited with Kelsie.
