Woman burned after attack in N. Phoenix

Police: Phoenix woman burned, likely from drug use

Posted: Updated:

A woman suffered burns to 50 percent of her body at a home near Union Hills and 19th Avenue Tuesday morning.

Police say they received a 911 call about people in the home being attacked by intruders and set on fire.  But as their investigation continued, they found evidence of possible drug use in the home, which didn't support a home invasion.

Officers reported finding some illegal drugs and at least one shattered vial, possibly a pipe.

The woman in her 20s remains in serious condition with burns to her face, neck and chest.  A man in his 20s suffered minor burns to his hands, which may have been sustained while trying to help the woman.

Police say it's unclear if the couple will face false reporting charges.

No names were released in this case.
