TEMPE, Ariz. -

A woman was shot in the leg during a domestic violence dispute at an apartment near Apache Boulevard and Rural early Friday morning.

Tempe police say kids called 911 around 6 a.m. saying their parents were dead and had guns. Police believe the parents were involved in a fight when a gun went off.

When officers arrived, they found a woman with gunshot wound in her leg. She's expected to be okay.

The woman's husband allegedly took off with both guns, but police were able to catch up with him and take him into custody.

Tempe police Sgt. Mike Pooley says domestic violence can always lead to something very tragic and that the children did the right thing by calling them.

The kids are in police custody. Their ages weren't released.
