Two paramedics and a heart patient were traveling to the hospital overnight when an impaired driver ran a red light, hitting the ambulance, and it on its side.

Police say the crash happened after 2:30 a.m. Sunday near seventh St & Broadway.

"From what the witnesses are saying he was going 60 to 70 miles an hour so were still trying to investigate that but that's what the witnesses are telling us," said Lt. Ed DeCastro with the Phoenix Police Department.'

The driver of the car that ran the red light also was taken to the hospital.

Investigators believe he was impaired and plan to charge the man once he is released from the hospital.
