Jewish community leaders on heightened alert after Kansas shooting

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

The shooting outside of Kansas City at a Jewish community center has sparked concern across the country including here in the valley.

Jewish community centers are evaluating security plans, and locally one center is already beefing up patrols.

At the Jewish Community Center in Scottsdale leaders have been talking to local law enforcement and the FBI, trying to assess if there are any other threats.

There is no specific threat in Arizona, but leaders are on high alert after the attack that at this point seems to be targeted at the Jewish community.

Authorities are still investigating the motive, but leaders are taking precautions and increasing security measures.

"We don't believe there is any heightened risk for the Jewish community here, however, just to be prudent we have begun communicating with all the Jewish organizations as well as the Scottsdale Police and Phoenix Police to increase patrols and increased other security protocols," said Stewart Wachs with the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center.

To make matters worse, Sunday's shooting is just a day before Passover, when many people of the Jewish faith get together for celebrations.
