NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

A forest fire that threatened homes and a school in Ocean County, N.J. was fully contained by Friday morning.

A school and many homes in Ocean County, N.J., were evacuated on Thursday afternoon because of several brush fires that were fanned by winds.  Those people were allowed back home hours later.

The largest fire burned about 300 acres around Berkeley Township.  A second fire in the Dover Road area was reportedly about 50 percent contained by Friday morning.

The Ocean County Sheriff's Dept. evacuated the Beachwood Intermediate South School just after 12 p.m. on Thursday.  They had told parents via Facebook that students were going to be transported to the Poland Springs Arena in Toms River. Parents were told to go there to pick up their children.

Police also ordered the evacuation of Northern Blvd. in Bayville for several hours.

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service declared the largest fire a major forest fire with structures threatened. Some were damaged, but no one was hurt.

The local Patch site reported that Central Regional in Berkeley held students who live on Grand Central, Western and Northern boulevards at the high school and middle school, according to a robocall from the school district.

The Toms River Regional School District said its Intermediate South School was evacuated as a precaution to the Poland Spring Arena.

The cause of these fires is still under investigation.
