Veterans fight Buford City Schools for legion property

BUFORD, Ga. -

Some Buford veterans are fighting for their Legion Post. Buford City Schools is thinking of taking the land so it can build a new high school.

The members of Post 127 have met at this particular location since 1948. And now they're worried they could lose this land to eminent domain.

The Buford City Schools wants the 33.5 acres owned by the legion to build a new high school and they want the veterans to leave the property by end of next year.

The district and legion have been in negotiations over the property for a year and a half. Both sides have appraised the land which includes ball fields that are leased to the city.

On Monday, the school board will consider this matter during their meeting.
