DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) - An off-duty Detroit police officer fired shots Saturday injuring a robbery suspect who fired shots at him. The officer was working a second job at the Conant Pharmacy near Hamtramck when he says a man with a gun tried to rob him. The officer disarmed the suspect and ran into the pharmacy but he says the suspect fired shots as he ran. The off-duty officer returned fire hitting the suspect in the face.

The man was taken to a local hospital. He's suspected in other robberies in the area. People who live near by are applauding the off-duty officer's actions. Chief Craig says it's not unusual for officers to work second jobs. The officer involved is currently suspended from police work pending an investigation.
