Akron, OH- The mom of the twins who came into this world holding hands is sharing her remarkable story.
Now that it's been a few days, their mom is getting to know them even more.
Sarah Thistlewaite's daughters have become social media darlings.
The new mom is tired and sore, but also overjoyed at her family.
She takes turns snuggling her daughters, Jillian and Jenna.
Her rare girls are called ‘mono mono’ twins.
The twins shared the same placenta and amniotic sac, and apparently didn't want to separate in the Akron General delivery room grabbing onto each other's hands.
The mother says when they were born, holding hands, she was moved to tears.
"They became rock stars right away as soon as they came out," Thistlewaite said. "I can't believe how big this has gotten."
It was also a special delivery for the doctors who helped deliver the famous twins.
"We do thousands of deliveries, but this one was really special because I took the first baby out and my partner took the second baby out. And, we held them up for Sarah to see and immediately they grasped hands," said Dr. Melissa Mancuso.
Thistlewaite thought it was going to be a little Mother’s Day story, but it turned into something much more.
"One of my high school friends lives in Australia, and she sent me a message last night just to let me know she saw me on her television in Australia," she said.
The mother couldn't be more thrilled about her new additions to her family.
"This is absolutely what it's about, so this is what I wait for during the day. Being a mom is just the most amazing feeling."
Both babies weigh less than 4 pounds and are doing well.
