Search continues for man reported missing in Rouge River

Posted: Updated:
DEARBORN, Mich. (WJBK) - The search continues Wednesday for a man who went missing after being spotted in the Rouge River.

Police say a witness called around 2 p.m. Tuesday saying a man and a woman were in the water behind the Henry Ford Estate, and they were struggling and calling for help.

Police and fire crews responded to the scene and learned the woman had already made it to shore. The 23-year-old Dearborn Heights resident was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Officers and a dive team are still working to locate the man, a 27-year-old Plymouth resident.

Police say the initial investigation indicates the man had gone into the water to assist the female.

Both are students at University of Michigan-Dearborn. Their names are not being released at this time.
