PHOENIX (KSAZ) - "I'll tell you one thing John, because you made this an issue with me every four years, you insult me. If I do run your going to be the first to know, you deserve to be the first one," said Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

That was Sheriff Joe Arpaio back in November when he was a guest on Newsmaker Sunday.

Wednesday evening we confirmed with an impeccable source, Joe Arpaio will not run for Arizona Governor in 2014.

He made the official announcement Thursday morning. Arpaio turns 82 this summer.

It's now safe to say any gubernatorial aspirations he might have held are over.

Arpaio would have had to resign as Sheriff to run for Governor.

He released a statement, in part, saying, "I cannot in good conscience leave the Sheriff's office now, since that would be necessary if I declare a candidacy for Governor. Currently, I have several sensitive investigations in progress and am facing many challenges in my office. Because of this, I will not desert the people of Maricopa County who have elected me six times. Further, I cannot desert my dedicated employees."

"As I mentioned the night of my re-election in 2012, I stated that I would run again for Sheriff in 2016. So many have already supported my campaign for another term, having already raised over $4.2 million in the last 16 months," he continues.

On Newsmaker Sunday, FOX 10's John Hook said he would wear the famous Pink Underwear on his head if Arpaio ran for Governor.

Thankfully, Hook won't have to hold up his end of the bargain!
