NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Police say they have a suspect in custody following a false threat that snarled rush-hour traffic around the Lincoln Tunnel.

Police responded to a report of a sniper near the tunnel in New Jersey on Tuesday.

Donald Wallace, 39, was taken into custody on 47th St. and 11th Ave. in Manhattan.  He was taken into custody at about 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday but the police did not release the information until midday on Wednesday.

Wallace, a Georgia resident, faces charges including making terroristic threats and creating false public alarm.  He was being transported to New Jersey to face the charges.

Dozens of heavily armed police officers from several departments swarmed the area near Dykes Lumber in Weehawken after a 911 caller said a sniper was on the roof of the building, which overlooks the entrance to the tunnel.

The Port Authority shut down the tunnel while police investigated. Police also closed several streets in the area.

A police helicopter that flew over the area didn't find anything.

Another emergency call prompted a huge police response to a nearby Hudson-Bergen Light Rail train. Someone reported a man with a gun on board. Video from SkyFoxHD showed many police vehicles and officers outside the train, which was stopped at a railroad crossing.

Just after 8 p.m., police were seen allowing passengers to re-board the train, which departed soon after.

Police finished their search and investigation, reopening many of the local streets by about 8:10 p.m.
