HAZEL PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -

They're off to the races in Hazel Park! Thoroughbred racing is back and this is opening weekend!

It's the first time in 30 years this type of horse racing has taken place at Hazel Park Raceway. Thoroughbred racing came to a thundering halt in 1984 after a dispute between horseman's organizations and track management. The races moved to Livonia until that track closed in 1998. Participants tell us as many as 8,000 people were there for opening day. No word yet on whether the thoroughbreds will return in 2015.

Water has been shut off to thousands of Detroit residents in recent months. Despite protests, more shutoffs are expected. So, what about water that's running non-stop inside abandoned homes? Soon there will be a new way to stop that, too.
