Suspect arrested in deadly DeKalb drive-by shooting

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

Police are crediting some observant witnesses for helping lead them to the suspects responsible for a deadly Tuesday night shooting in DeKalb County.

Hours later, a black Chevy Avalanche was pulled from the woods miles from the shooting that killed a young man at the Wesley Club Apartments on Wesley Club Drive.

Police say the truck crashed trying to escape officers. It is believed to be the truck used in the crime.

Authorities have taken the driver of that truck into custody. His identity has not yet been released.

DeKalb Police say a young black male was shot multiple times by a “truck full of shooters who then fled the scene.” He died on the scene.

According to Lieutenant John Medina of the DeKalb County Police Department, the victim was on foot when he was shot.

Nearby residents who witnessed the shooting say they “heard up to five or six gunshots” fired from the vehicle when it pulled into the complex. Witnesses memorized the suspect’s tag number and reported it to police.

Police located the vehicle later and pursued it, for a short time, until it crashed.

As for the other suspects in the shooting, Medina says “we’re following some very strong leads, at this time.”

The identity of the victim has not been released. Police have not established a motive for the crime, at this time.
