Today is the deadline to register for the August 5th primary election

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) If you want to vote in the August primary, you'll need to register by today.

The election on August 5th will feature party runoffs for the state house and senate, and, the U.S. Congress, where candidates will look to fill the seat of Rep. John Dingell, who's retiring after nearly 60 years on Capitol Hill.

The primary also includes proposals about wolf hunting and a plan to stop the so-called double tax on personal property of small business owners.

To register, applicants must be at least 18 years old by election day and be U.S. citizens. Applicants also must live in Michigan and in the city or township where they wish to register.

Voters may register by mail, at their county, city or township clerk's office or a Secretary of State branch office. The mail-in form is available on the Internet.
