Manhattan home invasion terrifies residents

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Police are looking for two men who terrorized two people inside their Manhattan apartment.

It happened Saturday morning when the armed men pushed their way inside.

Residents who live in the building are stunned.

“It's like walking into Law and Order at your own building." One resident told us.

Police say two men somehow slipped passed the doorman at 900 West End Ave and made their way to the 17th floor. Armed with flashlights and knives the suspects forced their way into an apartment.

Once the men got inside, the tenants fought off the attackers.

It was a dramatic crime in a Manhattan neighborhood unaccustomed to random violence.

The tenants were a 26 year old woman and 31 year old man.  They suffered minor cuts in the attack.

And police say in the scuffle one of the attackers may have been stabbed in his stomach.

“I wonder how they got there” another concerned resident said. “We're supposed to have a doorman.  It's supposed to be security in our lobby 24 hours a day."

The two victims are expected to be ok but it's unclear if they were specifically targeted or if this was random.

Police say they're checking surveillance video.

The suspects are described as white males, one bald, one with spiky hair.  Both of the men left the scene in gray t-shirts covered in blood.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
