2 women hospitalized after wrong-way crash on I-575

Posted: Updated:

Two young women are recovering from a terrible crash early Saturday morning.

Lauren Farmer and Rebecca Hood were on Interstate 575 when police say a driver, going the wrong way, hit them head on.

Police say Alexandria Brooks, 18, was drunk at the time of the accident. Brooks was driving southbound in the northbound lanes on I-575 when she hit Farmer and Hood.

Rescue workers had to cut Farmer out of the vehicle. Family members say this should be a wake-up call to anyone who thinks about getting behind the wheel drunk.

Farmer is fighting to live battling the injuries sustained in the horrible crash at Kennestone Hospital. She has undergone several surgeries and has more to come. Doctors say her recovery will be long and slow.

“All her left side was crushed,” said Farmer’s aunt Cyndi Johnson.

Hood also suffered numerous injuries but is doing better and has been released.

Friends and family are stepping up to help out financially and have put together several fundraisers to help.

An event will be held on Thursday, August 7 at Johnny's New York Style Pizza from 11:00 to 10:00 p.m. Click here for more information on GiveForward, a website created for the girls.

Brooks remains in jail on a $30,000 bond.
