Man Accused Of Using Car Mirror To Watch Someone In The Bathroom

UPPER DARBY, Pa. -

A stranger than fiction crime occurred inside the bathroom of a popular home improvement store in Upper Darby.

Police say they arrested an elderly man for using a mirror from his car to watch someone using the bathroom at the Home Depot.

According to authorities, this is a crazy case for a couple reasons. Number one, the suspect is 79 years old, and number two, they say he didn't use a camera like they normally see. According to authorities, he used a mirror instead.

“It's really the strangest story I've ever heard in a while," Home Depot customer Zuri Duckett said.

It was around 8 a.m. in the morning Wednesday when Upper Darby Police say they received a bizarre call from an employee at this Home Depot on Baltimore Avenue.

“You want to laugh about it, but it's really not funny. It's kind of sick when you think about it," customer Jeff Gassew said.

The nature of the call was a car side-view mirror and a public restroom.

“He sees a mirror and a hand being placed under the partisan, so looks he looks and he thinks to himself, my God somebody is watching me go to the bathroom," Upper Darby Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.

Chitwood said that employee left the bathroom and told one of his co-workers to watch the door because they were the only two people inside the men's room.

He said 79-year-old Frank Liberi walked out. Chitwood said the elderly suspect tried to drive away, but officers arrested him after a brief struggle.

“Apparently it was a pretty decent battle where officers had to fight this guy to get him out of the car," he said.

Liberi is charged with invasion of privacy, possession of an instrument of crime, resisting arrest and harassment.

Home Depot customers say they're creeped out.

“That's sick. That's, that's terrible. I mean you can't go in a public bathroom anymore without someone checking you out?” Jeff Gassew said.

Contractor Dan MacNamee said he visits this Home Depot multiple times every day. He's glad this didn't happen to him.

“He wouldn't have walked out. He would have crawled out if it was me," MacNamee said.

Liberi was arraigned Thursday morning. Chitwood says he has no previous criminal record in the greater Philadelphia area.
