Lone Democratic candidate for Arizona governor releases first campaign ad

Posted: Updated:

The lone Democrat in the race for governor has had pretty smooth sailing up until this point.

Fred DuVal has been sitting back, watching his opponents going after each other, so Tuesday night was really the beginning for him.

DuVal's first tv campaign ad will begin August 26.  It's definitely an interesting ad, reaching out to moderate Republicans and Independents.

"I'm a Republican and was proud to chair Governor Brewer's campaign.  Now I'm proud to support Fred DuVal," said former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods, a well-known Republican -- endorsing DuVal in the ad.

DuVal and Woods are longtime friends who attended college together in the 1970s.

DuVal's campaign stresses his ability to collaborate with all parties.

"I'm focused on talking to Republicans, Independents and Democrats about coming together as one state around big strategic goals.  We've got to get serious about improving our education system in Arizona.  That means stopping the cuts," said DuVal.

DuVal is, of course, running uncontested in the primary.  He'll face off in November with the winner of the Republican primary.

"We've lost a lot of confidence in our elected officials, our ethics.. scandals in Arizona continue to keep coming and we've got to use an independent ethics commission to clean things up," added DuVal.  "I've got a positive vision for change and I'm looking forward to talking to  Arizona voters, regardless of what party they're with, about how we come together to achieve new goals."

We're going to see more and more of DuVal's tv ads as we get closer to election day on November 4.
