Around 1 p.m., Oct. 28, Hurricane Melissa made landfall over New Hope, Jamaica with intense rains and winds at 185 MPH. The storm is now tied with Hurricane Dorian in 2019 as the strongest Atlantic hurricane to ever hit land.
