Could Orlando beat a heat record set in 1922?
Thursday's weather is forecasted to be 97 degrees, nearing the heat record for April 7 set in 1922 at 98 degrees.
Why is it getting hotter, sooner?
Most temperatures at 96 degrees or hotter are typically seen around June 6.
FOX 35's Noah Bergren explained why we're experiencing temperatures above 96 degrees about a month before expected. The answer: high pressure.
The air is compressing, Bergren explained.
Beneath high pressure in the atmosphere, the air is compressing, causing it to heat up, he said. This phenomenon is referred to as a "heat dome."
The heat dome is coming from Mexico, then sliding across the gulf, to where it will be in Central Florida by Thursday.
