A bicyclist, Manuel Martinez, died Tuesday morning after being hit by a City of Sanford dump truck at the intersection of W. Airport Boulevard and MLK Jr. Boulevard. City employee Shawannia Smith, 46, was arrested after fleeing the scene and faces charges of leaving an accident involving death and violating a cyclist's right-of-way.

DeLand police have issued an arrest warrant for 17-year-old Keyan Jayden Rundell, who faces two counts of second-degree murder in the shooting deaths of Dustin Rose and Samson Campbell. Police warn that if Rundell is spotted, not to approach him or attempt to apprehend him.  He is considered armed and dangerous, police said. 

Joshua Walker of Palm Coast was arrested after two drivers told police he pointed a gun at them after they passed him on the road. Walker was previously charged in a separate road rage incident in May 2023. 

Demorris Hunter was sentenced to death after he was found guilty of killing 38-year-old Theresa Green. This comes after jurors recommended the death penalty earlier this year. 

Three Chinese nationals are behind bars after their alleged participation in a multi-million dollar scheme. With 28 victims listed in the complaint, the U.S. Attorney number of victims is likely to keep growing. Prosecutors say the group targeted people between 60 and 80 years old.

Authorities have increased patrol in DeLand nearly a weeks after two young adults were found dead. Days after childhood friends Dustin Rose, 19, and Sampson Campbell, 18, were found shot to death at an industrial property near the city’s Athens Theatre on July 29, officers executed a search warrant at a home on Loughton Street around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. The operation was conducted with assistance from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force. No suspects have been publicly identified at this time. 

Two Florida police officers are expected to be OK after they were dragged by a suspect's vehicle during a DUI traffic stop, the police department said. Eustis Police tried to pull over Shakoi Donovan, a driver who they say was swerving and speeding, and seemingly trying to evade police officers. When they stopped him, they reached into his car to grab him. He hit the gas, pulling one officer a few feet, and another a few hundred feet.

A Brevard County family is speaking out after they say a hit-and-run suspect broke into their home demanding a car. When the didn't comply, he grabbed a kitchen knife, harming a woman and her son, a arrest affidavit said. The woman said she doesn't feel safe. 

After Volusia Couty SWAT responded to a Seville home on Aug. 2 for a well-being check, an armed man barricaded in the home was arrested after an hours-long standoff, deputies said. The suspect, Austin Mowery, 28, was taken to jail on an aggravated assault charge. He’s being held without bond.

The boyfriend of Skyler Bradford, 17, has been charged with tampering with evidence after her death. Skyler, who was preparing to start college next month, her family said, was shot and killed July 29 at an apartment complex on Old Cheney Highway. No arrest have been made in connection to her death. 

The argument stems over a plea deal offered in a first-degree murder case. Hassan Adeyemo is accused of shooting and killing his wife, Nanchin “Sarah” Adeyemo. First-Degree Murder is a capital offense. The State Attorney’s Office could have sought the death penalty if they’d chosen to, or life in prison. Instead, Worrell’s Office offered a plea for 30 years behind bars. Attorney General James Uthmeier applauded the decision by Judge Eric Netcher to not accept the plea. 

Kayne Stuart was beaten and waterboarded while filling in at Marion County Fire Rescue’s “Friendship Station” in December of 2025. Details of Kayne’s agreement with the County are mostly confidential. We do know one aspect of it, the worker’s comp portion, settled for $100,000. Stuart has now reached a settlement with Marion County.
