The FOX 35 Care Force is now honoring the 2024 Crossing Guard of the Year in Seminole County. FOX 35's Amanda McKenzie introduces us to Brenda Whitaker, who makes a difference in the lives of thousands of students as she smiles at them and keeps them safe both on the way to and from school.

FOX 35 Care Force: Mentor Sheldon Williams

The FOX 35 Care Force is highlighting a special imitative from the City of Orlando called the Mayor's Matching Grant Program." Started in 1995, the program has awarded more than 1,00 grants totaling nearly $6 million. Some of that grant money was awarded to the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity's "Young Men of Distinction Program," which helped Sheldon Williams when he was younger. Today, he has returned to Orlando as a mentor and football coach.

FOX 35 Care Force: 'Hunger Never Sleep's

The Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is hosting its first "Hunger Never Sleeps" event, a 24-hour volunteer marathon where hunger advocates are invited to roll up their sleeves and take action against hunger. FOX 35's Amanda McKenzie heads over to the event to learn more and talk with some of the volunteers.

'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' to return Tuesday night

ABC is bringing Jimmy Kimmel back to late-night TV on Tuesday night after briefly suspending "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" last week. The suspension came after comments that Kimmel made about Charlie Kirk’s killing, which led a group of ABC-affiliated stations to say it would not air the show and provoked some ominous comments from a top federal regulator.

The FOX 35 Care Force is counting down to its Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event with the American Cancer Society. The walk will take place on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Lake Eola Park in Downtown Orlando. Leading up to the event, we are honoring breast cancer survivors every Friday. Jimmy Kimmel is under fire over his comments about Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist who was shot and killed in Utah. According to a report from TMZ, Disney's ABC – the network airing "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" – is suspending the host over his comments. A memo published by Nexstar partially confirmed TMZ's report, saying Kimmel's show will be pulled "for the foreseeable future."

Econ River High School’s English teacher, Bob Strodtbeck, is being honored by the FOX 35 Care Force for his dedication to the lives of his students. On Aug. 19, Strodtbeck achieved a significant milestone when he worked 2,633 days straight, which is the equivalent to more than 14 school years without missing a day of work.
