DeSantis announces plans for Florida immigration detention expansion

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced his plans to expand the state's capacity to detain and deport undocumented immigrants through a new "Deportation Depot." DeSantis said he's confident Florida needs additional capacity to host undocumented immigrants in addition to "Alligator Alcatraz" in South Florida. The new "Deportation Depot" will be able to hold more than 1,300 detainees with the same services offered as Alligator Alcatraz.

Sen. Moody introduces bill to protect first responders

U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody is urging lawmakers to pass the "Graham Hoffman Act." Moody says the bill "will protect those who keep our communities safe and punish criminals who attack them." The legislation is named in honor of Graham Hoffman, a paramedic who was attacked and killed in the line of duty by a known criminal.

Trump to meet with Putin on Friday in Alaska

President Donald Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday in Alaska to attempt to broker a ceasefire in Ukraine. The meeting will take place at a military base in Alaska that was crucial to countering the Soviet Union during the height of Cold War and still plays a role today.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis hosted a press conference on Wednesday morning in Tampa. DeSantis was joined by newly appointed Lt. Gov. Jay Collins. At the event, DeSantis awarded law enforcement recruitment bonuses. The governor touted Florida’s recruitment of law enforcement officers from across the country, saying 8,700 bonuses have now been given out through the Florida Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Payment Program.
