Midtown Manhattan shooting leaves 4 dead

Four people have been killed, including one NYPD officer, after gunfire erupted in Midtown Manhattan Monday afternoon, officials said. The deceased included two females, one male and one NYPD officer. Another male was also shot and is still in critical condition. The 36-year-old NYPD officer was identified as Didarul Islam. He was with the department for three and a half years, the mayor said.

Former Ormond Beach police officer sentenced

Former Ormond Beach officer Jacob Cannon was sentenced on Tuesday to six months in jail and two years of probation for slamming a handcuffed woman during a DUI arrest. He pleaded no contest to felony battery and must surrender his law enforcement certification and gun rights.

Shots fired near University of Florida

Shots were fired Tuesday morning near the University of Florida (UF) campus in Gainesville, according to reports on the school's website. Authorities said no one has been injured during the incident so far, but the situation involves a barricaded suspect. West University Ave from 8th Street to 10th Street is currently shut down. The Human Resources building has been safely evacuated and will remain closed for the rest of the day. Officials said normal operations may resume on campus.
