Rakeem Williams, 32, faces a charge of leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, according to an arrest affidavit. Police said Williams attempted to drive down a narrow road near South Street when he hit the parked car.

A Florida woman was arrested for animal cruelty after leaving her dog in a hot car while shopping in a store. Police rescued the dog from the hot car, giving her water and taking her into their air-conditioned patrol vehicle. The dog's owner claimed she wasn't gone long and that she was waiting in line.

Body camera footage from the Lady Lake Police Department shows the rescue of a puppy after she was left in a car turned off in an unshaded area of shopping plaza parking lot. Officers saved the dog, giving her water before taking her into their air conditioned vehicle.

Elizabeth Jewell, the widow of Edgewater Police Officer David Jewell, who was shot and killed in September 2025 inside a Circle K gas station, remembered her husband as her best friend, partner, and security. "We had a once-in-a-lifetime love," she said. Her husband's killer, Eduardo Machado, pleaded no contest to first-degree murder, part of a plea deal to remove the death penalty. A judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The Central Florida Zoo recently announced that 2 of the Sloth World sloths under its care have been cleared from ICU are are considered to be in stable condition. The zoo described Dolce and Chewie as "fighters."  It follows a challenging and emotional three weeks, where 4 of the 13 sloths brought to the zoo died. "While their situation can still chance at any moment, they are doing better and continuing to fight every day," the zoo said.

Swatch at the Mall at Millenia closed Saturday and Sunday after swarms of people crowded outside the store, hoping to be among the first to get a new watch collaboration with Audemars Piguet. Similar incidents were reported at Swatch locations across the country. On Sunday night, The Mall of Millenia posted on its Facebook page that the Orlando Swatch store would not carry the AP watch. In its own post, Swatch said the AP collaboration was not a limited release.

Suspect to change plea in Officer David Jewell’s killing

Eduardo Machado, the man accused of shooting and killing off-duty Edgewater Police Officer David Jewell in September 2025, will be in court on Monday, where he is expected to change his plea. He was charged with first-degree murder in Officer Jewell's death and had previously pleaded not guilty to the charge.  According to online court records, Machado will be in court Monday for a plea hearing and a sentencing hearing. Details on the plea agreement were not revealed in those court documents. The shooting happened inside a Circle K convenience store in Ormond-by-the-Sea on Sept. 15, 2025.

Following a multi-week investigation launched after numerous complaints, the Babe Ruth Assistant State Baseball Commissioner handed down a devastating punishment. The teams were hit with a two-year probation for Oviedo Babe Ruth, and an immediate post-season ban for the T-Ball, Rookie Coach Pitch, and 10U All-Star teams. A chance to be All-Star champions was within arm's reach, but for the youngest All-Stars in Oviedo, the game was over before it even started. They were defeated not by a loss on the field, but by the adults running the league.

Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood has stern warning for kids kicking homeowners' doors, apparently part of a TikTok challenge, that they may choose the wrong house -- and get shot. He told parents to talk to their kids. VSO released this montage of video clips, which show a 12-year-old boy being handcuffed and arrested after he allegedly kicked someone's door and then ran away. The incident was caught on home surveillance video. In the video, a deputy talks to the boy, who is seated inside a patrol vehicle, about the seriousness of the situation, but encouraging him that he can be better in the future.
