May 1 is the beginning of sea turtle nesting season. Wildlife crews have already spotted some loggerhead sea turtle nests this year. Volunteers are inspecting local beaches every morning, checking for turtle tracks and then marking any nests to alert beachgoers to just stay away. If you do spot an unmarked turtle nest or turtle in distress, you need to call Florida Fish and Wildlife. Nesting season runs all the way through Oct. 31.
