A manatee trapped in a storm drain in Melbourne Beach is the focus of an urgent rescue operation, town officials said Monday. Melbourne Beach Town Commissioner Terry Cronin said the animal was discovered during routine stormwater system improvements.

Last month, a foul odor began spreading through Sanford after hundreds of fish and turtles were found dead near a construction site. Now, Seminole County officials are breathing a sigh of relief as the pond has been cleaned and the dead animals removed.
