Another hurricane season is on the way and set to begin on June 1. However, there is still time to prepare. This week is National Hurricane Preparedness Week. This year, Colorado State University is expecting an above-average season, with 17 named storms, nine hurricanes and four named as major storms.

Flights to Orlando and Tampa were grounded around 2:30 p.m. Sunday due to thunderstorms, according to the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA). Flights from Orlando were delayed an average of 90 minutes, while flights from Tampa were delayed an average of 60 minutes and increasing.

Central Florida is bracing for severe storms across the area. This is the last thing Seminole County residents want to hear, as it hasn't even been a week since storms whipped up a EF-2 tornado. Residents in Longwood are prepping ahead of the potential weather impacts.

Tornadoes develop extremely rapidly, and may dissipate just as quickly. The NWS says that most tornadoes are on the ground for less than 15 minutes.
