The combination of a dangerous storm surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline. The water could reach heights of 12 to 15 feet above ground.

Hurricane Idalia became a Category 2 storm early Tuesday evening on its path to Florida, the National Hurricane Center said, with maximum sustained winds at 100 mph. The center of the storm was located about 195 miles southwest of Tampa and 300 miles south of Tallahassee.
