A tropical wave moving westward has a 20% chance of development. Initially, the environment will be hostile for development through August 1st, with unfavorable conditions such as wind shear, Saharan Dust, and the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO). However, after Aug. 1, conditions may become more conducive to development.

A tropical wave moving off the African Coast will approach very warm water as it approaches the western Atlantic Ocean and that could provide fuel for development.

Orlando will record its hottest July ever, and the heat will continue into the weekend.

We face a higher rain chance this afternoon, but an even more likely chance comes our way during the afternoons this weekend. The coast will also be a contender in that PM storm action, and they need it with deficits in July alone ranging from 1"-4" below normal since July 1st.

The FOX 35 Storm Team is tracking a tropical wave that has emerged off the African Coast. This wave could show potential for development as it tracks west.

Storms return on Friday afternoon and will mainly develop around the Interstate 75 corridor.

Our highest rain chances will target the Marion, Lake, Putnam and Alachua County regions between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, where several inches of rain could fall in the heaviest spots, along with frequent lightning and gusts over 40 mph.

Officially, no tropical activity is expected over the next week, but we are monitoring long-term models that show the potential for something during the first week of August.

Tuesday will bring another chance for showers in the afternoon and early evening hours. The day will start with a blend of clouds and sunshine. Most storms will likely be north and west of the Interstate 4 corridor. Highs will reach the mid-90s.

hot, humid, and hazy Monday is underway in Central Florida. This afternoon, highs will be a few degrees above normal region wide, topping out around the mid 90s for inland areas and low 90s along the coast. Some isolated to scattered afternoon showers and storms are also on the way for our Monday, with best chances taking place in areas along and west of I-4.
