Rains swamp New Smyrna Beach, flooding homes and businesses

Nearly 3½ inches of rain drenched New Smyrna Beach in 24 hours, leaving homes and businesses flooded and city crews scrambling to pump water from streets. The flooding hit hard along Flagler Avenue and surrounding neighborhoods late Sunday, as stormwater spilled into shops and homes.
