No charges in Pulse crosswalk chalk protests

State Attorney Monique Worrell said her office would not prosecute those arrested for allegedly defacing the Pulse memorial crosswalk with rainbow chalk. She said there is no way to prove damage since chalk is designed to wash away. The state painted over several crosswalks, following federal guidance, that sought to eliminate any perceived social or political messaging from public roadways and streets. Worrell cautioned that dropping the charges in these specific cases should not encourage people to deface other crosswalks.
