A1A reopening in Flagler County after Hurricane Matthew repairs

Construction crews are hoping to reopen State Road A1A in Flagler Beach on Monday.  More than a mile of the historic road was washed away when Hurricane Matthew brushed Florida's Atlantic coast last month.

Governor Rick Scott will be in Flagler Beach at 9 a.m. to announce the reopening of the highway. Scott previously said he wanted to get the community back to work as quickly and safely as possible.

After five companies submitted bids for the job the FDOT picked Halifax Paving INC to do the repairs. The cost was $3.95 million with 45 days to complete the project, but it was finished in just over three weeks.

The area damaged badly by Hurricane Matthew covers about one-and-a-half miles, from South 9th Street to South 22nd Street in Flagler Beach.
