Bunnell father of 4 killed in hit and run crash
BUNNELL, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Flowers and balloons were left with sadness and heartbreak at spot where 42-year-old Rodger Martin Jr. was hit by a car and killed -- the father of four was riding his motorcycle, and police say the driver who hit him just kept going.
“He was the loving father of four the son to a loving mother, the brother to a loving sister and just all around a great guy,” said John Miller who was a friend of the victim.
Family members describe Martin as a devoted father who was committed to his four children.
“Really enjoyed life, has been there, for my kid’s birthday’s I’ve been there for his kid’s birthdays, just a great family man; great person,” Miller said
Police say Martin was riding west on Fairview Avenue just west of Beach street Sunday morning when a mini-van rear-ended him, then dragged the motorcycle.
“The motorcycle driver was eventually ejected from the motorcycle, and the van continued on a dragged the motorcycle another 500 feet,” said Jimmie Flynt with the Daytona Beach Police Dept.
Daytona Beach Police released video from a traffic camera from shortly before crash, it shows two motorcyclists, the second one is Martin, followed the suspect vehicle speeding behind. Investigators believe the suspect vehicle may be a red Dodge Minivan, loved-ones are hoping someone will recognize that vehicle
“I’m just here today to ask our community or help find the driver,” Miller said.
Martin’s family is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest, anyone with information on the hit and run crash should contact the Daytona Beach Police Dept. at 386-671-5100.
