Car struck by train after getting stuck on the tracks in Orlando

Three University of Florida students are okay after their car was hit by a train early Wednesday morning in Orlando.

Officials say the wreck happened on Orange Avenue near Jetport Drive around 4 a.m.

The driver of the car said she and two friends were driving from Gainesville to the Orlando International Airport to catch a flight to Philadelphia. She said she misjudged a turn onto Jetport Drive and turned onto the train tracks instead. She said they tried to move the car off the tracks but it was stuck and ten minutes later a CSX train hit the car.

Orange Avenue at Jetport Drive was shut down for about two hours while Florida Highway Patrol and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office investigated and crews cleaned up the wreck.
