Construction workers rescue woman who drove off bridge

The Florida Highway Patrol says a woman lost control of her car on a bridge over Little Lake Harris, near Howey-In-The-Hills, in Lake County, Florida.

The car hopped the curb, crashed through a guardrail and went into a lake.   Troopers say when they went to talk to the woman at the hospital, she said she swerved to avoid debris in the roadway.

Witnesses say the woman's car was sinking pretty fast and that somehow she was able to escape through a back window.  Two men were about to jump in to help the woman to shore, until they saw an alligator nearby.  One of those men threw a hose to the woman, helping her towards the shore.

Crews building a new bridge were able to use their boat to pluck the woman from the water and bring her to shore, according to troopers.

Troopers say while the driver is pretty shaken up, thankfully she does not have any serious injuries.
