Crews battle wildfire in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The Florida Forest Service and the U.S. Forest Service are battling a wildfire in Lake on Deerhaven Road and Jane Lane, north of County Road 42 in Lake County. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Due to thick brush, a burn-out operation is being conducted, where fires are intentionally set inside a control line to consume fuel between the edge of the fire and that line.  

The Jane Wildfire as it is being called by firefighters had grown to over 100 acres late Monday afternoon. The fire was considered 90 percent contained as of Monday evening. No homes are threatened. 

Authorities are asking people to avoid the area on CR 42 in Lake Kathryn.  Smoke is in the area, so motorists are asked to use caution in the area.  Law enforcement is on scene assisting with traffic control.
