Deputies search area as part of investigation

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office confirms that deputies spent Monday afternoon assisting the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in their search of an area along State Road 60 in Yeehaw Junction; however, they will not say if Osceola deputies are helping in the search for Diana Alvarez.  The 9-year-old girl has been missing for over a week.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says 28-year-old Jorge Guerrero Torres is a person of interest in the disappearance of Alvarez.  Guerrero was in federal court on Monday in Lee County on a charge of possessing child pornography.  He has not been charged in the girl’s disappearance.

Court documents show police traced Guerroro’s movements by his cell phone records.   Those records show he left his Orlando home on the night of May 28, and he was near the girl’s Fort Myers home the next morning, the same day her parents reported her missing.  Police tracked his cell phone to Central Florida and found it on the side of the road.

The family continues to circulate photographs of Alvarez and Guerrero, hoping someone saw something important.  Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact authorities.  Guerrero remains in the Lee County Jail on federal charges.  He is being held without bond.
