GAINESVILLE, Fla - On Monday morning a fatal shooting incident occurred in Gainesville. The following is a press release from the Gainesville Police Department.
One Gainesville man is dead and another injured after an early morning shooting in northeast Gainesville.
At 3:48 am Monday, multiple 9-1-1 calls reported a shooting in the area of 1143 NE 25th Street and a vehicle speeding away from the scene. When GPD officers arrived, they found Rashay L. Garrison, 29 deceased in the driver seat of a grey Dodge Charger parked in front of that address. Multiple bullet holes from an unknown caliber weapon were found in both the front and rear doors of the vehicle. Garrison was shot multiple times.
There was also a passenger in the Charger at the time of the shooting who was struck by a small piece of shrapnel during the incident, but did not suffer any serious injury. The passenger has already been released from the hospital. The investigation has revealed that Garrison and the passenger were parked outside the home when another vehicle drove up beside them, opened fire into Garrison's vehicle then fled the area. Investigators do not yet have a specific description of the suspect vehicle or its occupants.
The passenger has been extremely uncooperative with investigators. As of this writing, multiple detectives are canvassing the neighborhood interviewing anyone that may have information on this case. Garrison has been the aggressor in a number of altercations in the past few months, and investigators are reviewing each of those incidents to determine if this shooting is retaliatory.
