FHP: Man found in road near stolen SUV

LEESBURG, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Troopers with the Florida Highway are investigating a death in Lake County.

Lake County sheriff's deputies were called to the scene after Jeffrey Lau, 74, of Leesburg, was found lying on Maywood Bay Drive in Leesburg, unconscious.  He was later pronounced deceased.
 
An abandoned 2003 Ford Explorer was found near Lau's body, which had been reported stolen to Leesburg Police on Wednesday. 

"There was no visible damage to the SUV. Troopers are waiting for the medical examiner to issue a cause of death," said FHP spokesperson Lt. Kim Montes. "Mr. Lau did not appear to have significant trauma on scene."

Troopers have the SUV in storage for examination for any damage which may be consistent with striking or running over a pedestrian, according to Lt. Montes. 

"At this time, troopers believe that Mr. Lau was on his morning walk when he died," Montes added.
