HAWTHORNE, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - The Putnam County Sheriff's Office says that 49-year-old Douglas Peter Kelly of Hawthorne was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine.
They said that on Tuesday, Kelly contacted the sheriff's office and said he purchased methamphetamine about a week earlier and had a “bad reaction” after smoking the narcotic. The suspect told them that because of the violent reaction he had after smoking the drug, he believes he was sold the wrong narcotic.
Kelly is said to have went on to tell detectives in the drug unit that he wanted the substance tested because he wanted to press charges on the person who sold him the wrong narcotic. He then went to the sheriff's office so that they could test the narcotics he purchased. He handed detectives a clear, crystal-like substance wrapped in aluminum foil.
The sheriff's office says that the substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine, the drug Kelly intended to purchase. Kelly was arrested and charged. He is being held on $5,000 bond.
