Florida wildlife officials soliciting tips on recently discovered anacondas

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials hope you can help them learn more about two green anacondas recently found in Brevard County.

An 8 foot, 8 inch green anaconda was captured last week in the Oxford Rich neighborhood in Melbourne. Biologists found a domestic rabbit in its stomach, so they think someone owned the snake and was feeding it.  A second anaconda was recently found near the Brevard-Orange county line. Neither snake had a transponder in it, which the state requires in order to track the animals when they are kept as exotic pets.

Green anacondas are the largest snake in the world. The females can grow up to 26 feet long. FWC says it does not want the anacondas slithering around Florida.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922 or email or text to Tip@MyFWC.com.
