Lake County man arrested in deadly 2012 crash

It was a car accident so tragic, somehow you expect it to have been late at night on the weekend, but it was 2 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon, September 4, 2012.  

According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers, Adam Brent, 25, of Clermont, was driving southbound on County Road 33 at Groveland International Airport Road in Mascotte, when he passed another vehicle on a double yellow line.  Jimmy Medeiros, 64, of Mascotte, was headed north and tried to swerve to avoid a collision, but the front ends of the two cars hit each other.  The car Medeiros was in flipped, and he died at the scene.

According to the FHP report, Brent was taken to the hospital where a blood test detected a .181 blood alcohol level.  Three years later, on Monday night, Brent was arrested.

"It's one step closer to justice, and maybe a little closer to closure," said a neighbor Valerie Walstead.  Walstead said news of the arrest matters to everyone here in this neighborhood.  "I'm putting my faith into the justice system, hoping that something good will come out of it, if anything.  But, we are one step closer."

Brent was booked into the the Lake County Jail,  held on a $30,000 bond.
